“Why the J” Spotlight: Michelle Ben-Aviv

We are thrilled to introduce the new Miami Beach JCC Board Chair, Michelle Ben-Aviv. We asked Michelle to share a little bit about what inspired her to take on this important leadership role for our community and this is what she said…

Our family has always considered the JCC to be the center of Jewish life in Miami Beach, and this has only become more and more true as we see our children grow and thrive here at the J. We, together with our parents, became involved as donors early on with the naming of Camp Klurman because we believe very strongly in the positive impact of a Jewish summer camp experience and wanted to ensure its continued success. We are so proud that Camp Klurman is a joyful place where all of our children can come together to celebrate Jewish life right here in the heart of Miami Beach.

I have always been taught the importance of showing up and giving to the best of my ability, whether that be of my time or financial resources, and this is something I work hard to model for my young children. After dedicating many years as an involved parent and leader at my children’s school, I felt it was time to broaden my scope to the needs of the greater Jewish community. I see The Miami Beach JCC as the “crown jewel” of Miami Beach – the central meeting place where we can all experience the best of what our community has to offer, and the place that will be here for us at every stage of our lives. And I know that we must never take this for granted, because if we want the JCC to be here for the community, the community must be here for the JCC.

I am excited to accept the torch from my amazing predecessor, Michael Tobin, to serve as your new Board Chair. My goal is to work closely with our excellent staff and community leaders to see that the JCC continues to grow and thrive for the next generation. There is so much more we want to do, but we need your help. I urge you to join me in supporting the MBJCC. Together we can build an even stronger Jewish community on Miami Beach.

I look forward to seeing each and every one of you show up in the way that inspires you. I hope you will get involved, be part of the MBJCC family, and feel what I feel – The Power of Community.

The Everyone Belongs Scholarship Fund

Each year, the MBJCC provides $250,000 scholarship and financial assistance to families for membership, after-school and enrichment programming, sports and summer camp tuition. We will never turn a family or individual away due to their inability to pay. The Everyone Belongs Scholarship Fund is funded each year through donor support.

Wiesenfeld Family Security Fund

This fund was established by community leaders and the MBJCC Board of Directors in the wake of October 7 to dedicate additional resources for armed security personnel and equipment. The Wiesenfeld Family Security Fund was named in recognition of a generous gift to the MBJCC Capstone Capital Campaign made by Jason Wiesenfeld, a longtime MBJCC supporter and leader.

Patron of the Arts

Arts & Culture at the MBJCC has touched thousands of lives through film, literary programs, musical concerts, art gallery exhibits, cultural outings, and various special events, lectures and speakers. This is made possible through the generosity of our Patron of the Arts donors who are committed to our mission of being the center of Jewish arts & culture on Miami Beach.
