Our outstanding extracurricular, skill-based classes keep kids active and engaged all year long. With our large variety of programs, children can hone existing talents or find new interests — we encourage them to express themselves through creative outlets and challenge their minds every step of the way. Class offerings span dance, performing arts, martial arts, chess, coding, game design, yoga, ceramics, painting, and more — for children from infants through middle school. Enrichment Classes at the MBJCC
Classes run in sessions throughout the year and are open to children of all experience levels. Browse descriptions of our current class offerings below.
Dance & Performing Arts
Ballet
Introduce your child to the beauty of ballet in this welcoming, all-levels class. Dancers will learn foundational techniques, proper posture, and classic movements like pirouettes and arabesques while building strength, grace, and confidence. Each session encourages creativity and self-expression through the timeless art of ballet.
Jazz & Contemporary Dance
Explore the energy and artistry of jazz and contemporary dance in this dynamic, high-energy class. Each session introduces new styles and techniques, from foundational terminology to jumps, leaps, and expressive floorwork. Dancers will build strength, flexibility, and confidence while discovering the fluidity and creativity that make these styles unique.
Hip Hop Dance
Get active, learn fresh moves, and have fun in this high-energy hip hop class. Each session includes a warm-up with freestyling and stretching, followed by dynamic choreography set to today’s top tracks.
Dance Team
For 1st grade and up, this program offers weekly practices and opportunities to perform and compete. New dancers can audition at the start of the season, while returning members keep their place on the team. Additional fees apply for competitions and uniforms.
Acting & Theatre
Hosted by Area Stage, this high-energy acting class introduces young performers (1st grade and up) to the world of theatre through games, storytelling, and character play. Students build confidence, teamwork, and performance skills while having fun and expressing themselves. No experience needed.
Martial Arts & Fitness
Krav Maga
A practical self-defense program that teaches students how to prevent and respond to real-world situations. Designed for kids and teens, the program builds confidence, discipline, and decision-making skills while emphasizing safety, awareness, and self-control. Students progress through a structured patch system that rewards growth and achievement.
Yoga for Kids
This engaging yoga class combines movement, music, and mindfulness in a fun and relaxing environment. Participants explore yoga poses, breathing techniques, and creative expression through song and play, fostering connection, balance, and well-being.
Technology & STEM
Chess — Chess Chevra
Chess Chevra teaches students strategic thinking and problem-solving through engaging chess instruction. Each class includes a brief lesson followed by guided gameplay, allowing students to practice and improve with support from experienced coaches. The program concludes with a friendly tournament where participants can compete for trophies and medals.
Game & App Development
This interactive class introduces students to the fundamentals of game design and app development. Using beginner-friendly platforms, participants create their own mobile apps and 3D game worlds while learning user interface design, programming logic, and testing processes. The program builds critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving skills, and digital literacy in a fun, hands-on environment.
Minecraft Coding
Introduce young minds to coding and design through engaging, step-by-step projects using Minecraft. Students develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and self-expression while learning the fundamentals of text-based coding in a fun and interactive environment.
Hebrew School of the Arts
Sababa
Hebrew School of the Arts offers an innovative and exciting approach to Jewish education, bringing Judaism to life through drama, crafts, baking, and other hands-on creative experiences. Children learn in a warm, engaging environment where every lesson is interactive, meaningful, and fun.
Our wildly successful Aleph Champ Hebrew reading program motivates students to grow at their own pace, earning colored levels as they advance, just like karate belts, building confidence and strong reading skills along the way.
Students explore Hebrew reading, prayers, Jewish history, traditions, and holidays through experiential learning that helps them connect deeply to their Jewish identity and feel proud of who they are.
Arts & Crafts
Painting & Printmaking
Learn the fundamentals of painting and printmaking through guided, step-by-step instruction. Students explore a variety of mediums while creating their own unique works of art.
Ceramics & Sculpture
Young artists explore the world of sculpture through hands-on clay projects. With step-by-step guidance, students learn essential techniques while creating, decorating, and glazing their own pieces for firing.
Open Art Studio
This imaginative art program encourages children to explore, create, and express themselves through a wide range of hands-on projects using diverse mediums. Students are free to experiment and bring their ideas to life — with a rotating curriculum of open-ended activities, every session inspires curiosity, creativity, and discovery. Enrichment Classes FAQs
