DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special evening\, Tuesday\, December 6\, 7:30 PM with  Professor Henry Green of the University of Miami\, author of Sephardic Voices: The Untold Story of the Expulsion of Jews from Arab Lands in conversation with Rabbi Daniel Hadar of Temple Moses.  Featuring two special guests who survived the expulsion as children. \nHenry Green and co-author Richard Stursberg\, through photographs and story telling\, have captured the voices and faces of the still-living generation of Jews who have experienced firsthand-as children and adults- the great uprooting from their homelands in Africa and the Middle East in the twentieth century. SUMMARY:MBJCC Israeli Film Series: My Dearest Enemy
DESCRIPTION:The Miami Beach JCC and Miami Jewish Film Festival present the Israeli Film Night Series screening of My Dearest Enemy. \nThis epic drama tells the story of a 25-year friendship between two women — Alice\, a Palestinian-Israeli professor\, and Maya\, a Jewish-Israeli artist. The two women met in Jerusalem as young girls but grew up taking vastly different paths. Drawn to each other by their shared love for poetry\, they develop a deep bond that grows into an impossible friendship that is ultimately put to the test by their communities’ ever-growing conflicts. My Dearest Enemy is a story of love\, betrayal\, shattered dreams\, and courage — but above all\, it is a story about the hope and promise of enduring friendship.

SUMMARY:Literary Luncheon: Letty Cottin Pogrebin\, Shanda
DESCRIPTION:This Literary Series event is part of the JCC’s Wednesdays at the JCC Special Speaker Series. The word shanda is defined as shame or disgrace in Yiddish. This book\, Shanda tells the story of three generations of complicated\, intense 20th-century Jews for whom the desire to fit in and the fear of public humiliation either drove their aspirations or crushed their spirit. In her deeply engaging\, astonishingly candid memoir\, author and activist Letty Cottin Pogrebin exposes the fiercely guarded lies and intricate coverups woven by dozens of members of her extended family. This narrative is\, by turns\, touching\, searing\, and surprisingly universal.
