SUMMARY:Israeli Film Series: Cinema Sabaya
DESCRIPTION:RSVP\nPlease join us for this month’s Israeli Film Series screening of the movie – The LIttle Things –  on Monday\,Please join us for this month’s Israeli Film Series screening of the movie – Cinema Sabaya-  on Monday\, March 12 at 7:30 pm. \nIsrael’s official entry to the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film and winner of three Israeli Academy Awards (Ophirs) including Best Film and Best Director. Sparked by her own experience in leading film workshops\, director Orit Fouks Rotem delivers an inspirational drama about the power of art to unify and create connections across cultures. Nine women enroll in a course with Rona (played by Dana Ivgy from MJFF 2015 film Zero Motivation)\, a young director hired to teach an introductory filmmaking course. Jewish and Arab\, secular and devout\, these nine women share their personal video footage with their classmates every week. They use their meetings and exercises to reflect on their roles as wives and mothers and pluck up the courage to imagine a different reality for themselves. With each lesson\, they are not only confronted with the stark differences in their circumstances\, but also by their elements of connection. The result is both an illuminating lesson in empathy and a beautiful portrait of women bridging the cultural divide and gathering in sisterhood.

SUMMARY:Lunch & Learn: Chag HaSigd The Festival of Sigd with Israeli Shaliach Yehuda Michael
DESCRIPTION:On Sigd\, Ethiopian Jews pray to God and plead for a return to Zion\, the land of the Torah\, and specifically Jerusalem. The community engages in introspection and reflection – in addition to the individual self-examination of Yom Kippur\, this reflects and focuses on joint communal behavior. \nThere are no written sources about the origins of Ethiopian Jews and the historical time they came to Ethiopia. For the most part\, history has been preserved orally and has been passed down from generation to generation. The journey of Ethiopian Jews through \nSudan is one of the historical\, important\, and special journeys of the Jewish people in general and of the Ethiopian community in particular. It is intertwined with longings for the Land of Zion\, an aspiration to lize an old dream of immigrating to Jerusalem\, to build and understand it\, and to unite with the Jewish people in our country. Most Ethiopian Jews immigrated to Israel in two major operations. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Roots Tour: A Siblings Journey From Hatred To Harmony
DESCRIPTION:RSVP\n  \nRoots Tour – A Sibling Journey: From Hatred to Harmony\, Directed by Christian Hanna\, Jessica Marriott\, Dr Bluma Sapir \nSynopsis: 70% of all domestic violence reported is from sibling abuse. That’s higher than spousal abuse\, and no one talks about it. My sister and I hated each other our entire lives\, until November 2019. We figured out how to forgive each other\, heal our past pains\, and create a new sisterhood-culture. \nMovie Trailer \nAs adult-siblings\, it’s no longer about who was right or wrong. It’s no longer about accuracy\, because we both contributed to our unhealthy childhood relationship. We were both children then\, but now we are both adults. \nWe decided to do a “roots home tour”” to go back to where our painful moments happened and to create new positive restorative memories…together. We are Sibz United: I am Jessica Marriott\, entrepreneur and innovator\, and my sister is Dr. Bluma Sapir Clinical Psychologist and Couples Therapy expert.

SUMMARY:Aaron Hamburger\, Hotel Cuba - Literary Luncheon
DESCRIPTION:RSVP \nAward winning author Aaron Hamburger is our Literary Luncheon guest on Wednesday\, April 10 at 12:30 pm. He will present about his latest novel\, Hotel Cuba. \nFleeing the chaos of World War I and the terror of the Soviet Revolution\, practical\, sensible Pearl Kahn and her lovestruck\, impulsive younger sibling Frieda sail for America to join their sister in New York. But discriminatory new immigration laws bar their entry\, and the young women are turned back at Ellis Island. With few options\, Pearl and Frieda head for Havana\, Cuba\, convinced they will find a way to overcome this setback. \nA heartbreaking\, epic family story\, Hotel Cuba explores the profound courage of two women displaced from their home who strive to create a new future in an enticing and dangerous world far different from anything they have ever known. \nAaron Hamburger is the author of the story collection The View from Stalin’s Head—which won the American Academy of Arts and Letters’ Rome Prize — and two novels\, Faith for Beginners and Nirvana Is Here. His writing has appeared in The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, O\, the Oprah Magazine\, The Forward\, and many others. He lives in Washington\, DC. \n

SUMMARY:College Admissions for the Jewish Soul
DESCRIPTION:RSVP\nJewish students need to feel safe and supported on college campuses. We’ve seen the news\, and navigating the colleges and the college admissions process can be stressful and confusing.  This free seminar hosted by International College Counselors will help parents of Jewish teenage children to understand some of the following: \nWhat’s changed in Jewish college life since October 7? \nWhich colleges reacted “best” and which performed “worst” post-October 7? \nShould my child highlight or hide their Judaism in their college application? \nHow do colleges look at participation in religious activities like Jewish youth groups\, trips to Israel\, and Jewish community service projects? \nIn an essay\, how should my student frame their Jewish activities? \n
