DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our JCC-U Virtual Summer Lunch and Learn Series on Wednesday\, July 23\, 1:00 PM  with Alon Tal\, one of Israel’s leading environmentalists and former member of Knesset for the Blue and White Party.  We will be in conversation with him on Israel and the Environment in War and Peace. \nProfessor Alon Tal’s career has been a balance between academia and public interest advocacy. Between 2021–2022\, he was a member of Knesset\, Israel’s parliament\, where he served as chair of the subcommittee for environmental and climate impact on health. Presently\, he has an appointment as professor in the Department of Public Policy at Tel Aviv University. Tal has held faculty posts at Stanford\, Ben Gurion\, Hebrew\, Michigan State\, Otago\, and Harvard Universities. He has also founded several Israeli environmental organizations\, including Adam Teva V’Din\, the Israel Union for Environmental Defense\, and the Arava Institute. He has served as deputy chair of Keren Kayemeth L’Yisrael\, where for many years he oversaw national forestry policy in Israel and is currently co-chair of Zafuf\, the Israel Forum for Population\, Environment and Society. DESCRIPTION:Calling All Members and Guests! \nPlease join us on Sunday\, September\, 28\, 9:00 AM for a Reverse Tashlich – family friendly mitzvah event to clean our waterways! \nWe will use the kayaks and canoes of the Mariner Program to clean the MBJCC backyard – the Indian Creek Waterway from plastic and other debris! Community Service Hours will be given! \nLifeguards will be on duty! \nVolunteers from the climate and environmental organization VolunteerCleanUp.org. Volunteer Clean Up organization will help out1 This organization is focused building a grassroots movement against marine debris by helping facilitate educational shoreline\, waterway and neighborhood cleanups. \nThis is a program of the Tikkun HaYam – Repair the Sea organization which organizes Reverse Tashlich programs all over the world. \nBring your children and grandchildren! Lifeguards will be on duty. \nA donation of $18 per person is requested (children under 12 are free). MB JCC Lifeguards will be present. Refreshments will be served! (This is a plastic free event – please bring reusable water bottles.  We will have water for refills.) Community Service hours are available. \nA portion of the proceeds support the MBJC Mariners program and our co-sponsor for the day\, VolunteerCleanUp.org\, a non-profit dedicated to sponsoring a grassroots movement for clean beaches\, shorelines and waterways. It is a true tale of adventure\, escape\, thrills\, terrors\, and evolution through perpetual movement. \nAs always\, Bahr masterfully combines humor\, pathos\, and masterful storytelling to take the audience on a journey that is funny\, heartbreaking\, and life-affirming all at once. \n“Bahr has more voices at her command than a symphony as strings.” Variety \nThe evening is a beautiful way to reflect on October 7 and to contemplate October 8. \nIris Bahr is an award-winning writer\, actor\, director\, producer\, and host of the hit X-Rae and Near Death podcasts. She has written two humorous memoirs: Dork Whore\, about her travels through Asia\, and Machu My Picchu\, about her adventures through South America and her college experience. She also co-authored the Book of Leon with comic JB Smoove. Her books have been translated into numerous languages\, and Dork Whore is currently being adapted into a feature film. \nHaving appeared on countless TV shows\, Ms. Bahr is best known for her recurring role on Curb your Enthusiasm\, where she plays Rachel Heinemann\, the Orthodox Jewish Girl that gets stuck on a ski-lift with Larry David\, Hacks\, The Conners\, and her cable series Svetlana\, executive produced by Mark Cuban\, which she also wrote and directed for two seasons. \nIris has written and performed six solo shows. Her most recent show\, Stories from The Brink\, premiered \nin Montreal and won the 2024 Frankie Storytelling Award. She is headed to Toronto with her other show\, See You Tomorrow\, which was nominated for the 2024 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New play. Her critically acclaimed solo show\, “DAI (enough)”\, which she also performed at the United Nations for over 100 ambassadors and delegates\, had a hit run Off-Broadway\, has toured around the world\, and won the prestigious Lucille Lortel Award for Best Solo Performance\, as well as two Drama Desk and UK Stage Award nominations. \nShe currently resides in NY and when not touring and performing\, teaches writing\, conducts public speaking workshops and works with artists privately helping them develop and direct their work.
